Jayco Leads The Way In Green RVing

We have always been proud to be a PA Jayco Dealer, but we are even more proud since Jayco announced its long term sustainability initiative.  Jayco has set several goals over the next five years to ensure that their products has a minimal negative impact on the environment and on human health.

“At Jayco, sustainability means meeting our current manufacturing and resource needs without compromising future generations’ ability to meet theirs. We build products that allow our customers to enjoy the outdoors and the environment. Therefore it makes sense that we should strive to be a good corporate citizen and a good steward of the environment,” said Jayco’s chairman and CEO, Wilbur Bontrager.

The company’s first goal is to be landfill free in the next 4 years.  They want to be able to take all the waste from the manufacturing process and their offices’ and be able to recycle it and/or make sure it does not go to a landfill.  The second goal is to reduce fresh water usage and focus on using reclaimed rainwater in their facilities.  Their new goals also include an initiative to reduce energy use by 40% in the next three years.   Jayco will work with suppliers to assist and educate them on the benefits of sustainable goods and packaging.

Jayco recently joined a select group of businesses, known as The Sustainability Coalition, with the goal of examining the economic and social benefits of being a sustainable company.  Last year Jayco was the first major RV manufacturer to be 100% green certified and fully recognized for building products with green manufacturing processes and materials by TRA Certification Inc., an internationally accredited certification organization.

What do you think of Jayco’s new initiatives?  Are you more likely to buy a RV that is environmentally friendly or does the issue not impact your RV choice?
